“Lot of Drivers Who Create Politics”- Alex Albon Hails Max Verstappen As a “Really Straight Guy”

Proven to be quite the thorn in Mercedes’ side, Max Verstappen has been the lone challenger for the better part of this season. The Red Bull point man has driven immaculately in 2020, earning the team a race win and 6 podium finishes so far.

Had he not faced technical failures and power unit issues, he might have performed better. But more often than not, he features alongside Bottas and Lewis Hamilton to lock out the Top-3.

On the other hand, Alex Albon has been decent with his performances. Expected to finish in the Top-5 positions at the very least, he has not particularly impressed. Bar the podium finish at Mugello, Albon has not had anything great to write home about. Not yet, at least.

Max Verstappen focused on being the best at Red Bull

Whatever the level of performances from the two drivers may be, the one thing there is no room for between the pairing is politics. Verstappen has been clear from the start that he strives to be the best at Red Bull and the best on the grid in due time.

Speaking about this very fact, Alex Albon stated, “To be honest, working with him one-on-one, you realise he is a really straight guy. I know there are a lot of drivers who create politics within the team.

“But Max isn’t one of them. We get on well, we have similar feedback and it’s nice to have someone like him to be racing against.”

Pressure builds on Albon after disappointing Sochi outing

It has started to feel like one step forward, two steps backward for Albon at Red Bull Racing. After finishing P10 in Qualifying, a gearbox change saw him receive a five-place grid penalty. But ultimately, he finished in P10 and earned the team one point.

Despite being the frontrunner for the 2021 seat, the performances week in and out are not exactly reflective of the faith. Up until now, Albon has enjoyed support from his Team Principal, Christian Horner.

But close to having completed two full seasons, a sterner evaluation of results might be the need of the hour, keeping Pierre Gasly’s performances in mind.
