How to watch the AFL finals online or on TV: AFL finals live stream, TV guide

The AFL finals get underway tonight, with two qualifying finals and two elimination finals to be played over the weekend. This is The Roar’s ultimate guide to live streaming the first week of the AFL finals, or watching them on TV.

Despite all the delays and irregularities that plagued the home-and-away season, this year’s finals series will play out relatively normally, with the exception of Victorian sides not being able to play their home finals in the state.

AFL Week 1 finals fixture

The finals begin with tonight’s qualifying final between Port Adelaide and Geelong, before Friday night sees the Brisbane Lions host Richmond. Both of those matches see the winner progress to the preliminary finals, with the loser facing off against the winners of the elimination finals.

The elimination finals take place on Saturday, with St Kilda ‘hosting’ the Western Bulldogs at The Gabba and West Coast playing Collingwood in Perth.

Thu, Oct 1 – Port Adelaide vs Geelong Cats, 7:40pm (AEST), Adelaide Oval
Fri, Oct 2 – Brisbane Lions vs Richmond, 7:50pm (AEST), The Gabba
Sat, Oct 3 – St Kilda vs Western Bulldogs, 4:40pm (AEST), The Gabba
Sat, Oct 3 – West Coast Eagles vs Collingwood, 8:10pm (AEST), Optus Stadium

How to watch the finals on TV

Like the home-and-away season, every match of the first week of the finals will be available to watch on Fox Footy. Their coverage is available through Foxtel channel 504, or 258 in HD, and has no ad breaks during play. Unlike the home-and-away season, they’ll be simulcasting Seven’s coverage, rather than providing their own commentary.

Accessing Foxtel’s coverage, as you can imagine, requires a valid Foxtel TV subscription, with the sports package included.

There, luckily, is a free-to-air option in Channel Seven. Depending on which state you’re in, matches might be on 7mate, so check your local guides to be sure.

How to live stream the finals online

You’ll have a couple of options available if you’d prefer to stream the finals online.

The best option would have to be Kayo Sports, a streaming service that lets you access all of Fox Sports’ content on your preferred device.

A Kayo subscription costs $25 a month, but you may be eligible for a free two-week trial if you’ve never used it before.

Alternatively, if you want to stream more of Foxtel’s content than just sports, you’ll find a Foxtel Now subscription more useful.

If you’ve already got a Foxtel subscription, you can simply use Foxtel GO to stream the footy – it’s included in your package.

There are free options too; 7Plus is Seven’s streaming service and, so long as you give them your email address, you can watch their coverage of the AFL finals on your preferred device at no extra charge.

An AFL Digital Pass will also let you watch the first week on your mobile device, and you may be eligible for a free subscription if you’re a Telstra mobile customer.

Here at The Roar, you’ll be able to follow all the action with our live scores, blogs, highlights, reaction and analysis for every game.
