French Open 2020 Draw: Rafael Nadal to Face Dominic Thiem Challenge Before 20th Grand Slam Hunt

The draw for the men’s singles at French Open 2020 has been released, and some tricky and mouth-watering duels could feature at the latter stages of the Grand Slam.

The No.1 seed in Paris is World No.1 Novak Djokovic followed by the defending champion Rafael Nadal, seeded second. US Open 2020 champ Dominic Thiem is the third seed and Daniil Medvedev rounds up the top 4.

Djokovic plays 80th ranked Mikael Ymer in the first round. He could face Hugo Dellien or RiÄŤardas Berankis in the 2nd round and then proceed to face a tough challenge against 7th seed Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals. Should he make his way to the semifinals, he could face the fearsome Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic comes into the Grand Slam in great form as he beat Diego Schwartzman to win his 36th ATP Masters 1000 title at the Italian Open. The Serbian has made a quick switch to the clay-court and looks ready to challenge for the French Open.

Rafa will begin his title defense against 83rd ranked Egor Gerasimov. The Spaniard could face a qualifier or Mackenzie McDonald in his second round. Furthermore, he is slated to face Fabio Fognini in the 4th round.

In an enticing potential clash, Rafa could headline a quarterfinal match with US Open 2020 finalist Alexander Zverev. Moreover, we could see a repeat of last year’s final with Thiem on course to face Rafa in the semifinals.

Looking for a 13th French Open title, Nadal seemed rusty when he played in the Italian Open. Rafa went down in straight sets in the quarterfinals. He is playing after seven months on the sidelines, and so it might take a while for the Spaniard.

Thiem will start his French Open against Former US Open champion Marin Cilic. The Austrian could clash with 9th ranked Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals. Dominic Thiem is in Rafael Nadal’s half, so a semi-final clash is very much on the cards.

Thiem comes into the event as a Grand Slam champion for the first time in his career. More importantly, he is also the two-time runner-up at the Roland Garros. Often regarded as the heir to Rafa Nadal’s clay crown, Thiem also has a great shot at the title.

Medvedev faces a tricky challenge against Marton Fucsovics in the 1st round. And he could face World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals of the French Open. Medvedev is on Novak Djokovic’s half, meaning he could face the 17-time Grand Slam champ in the semis.

Furthermore, Andy Murray will clash with Stan Wawrinka in the first round. And Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Jaume Munar. The US Open 2020 runner up Alexander Zverev will start his French Open campaign against Dennis Novak.
