Two Fighters Fined for Missing Weight at UFC Fight Night – Fight Still On

The fighters who are set to step foot inside the Octagon this weekend at UFC Vegas 8 took to the scale just a while back. Both Anthony Smith and Aleksander Rakic made the weight limit of a non-title light heavyweight fight. However, two fighters on the preliminary cardUFCUFC missed weight. Regardless, the bout between them will go on as planned.

This weekend’s dose of UFC action will also witness former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler take on Neil Magny. With eighteen years of fighting experience behind him, Lawler pounced on the opportunity to replace Geoff Neal for a spot in the co-main event. Lawler will look to end the first three-fight losing streak of his career. Both Lawler and Neal weighed in within the limit making the fight official.

In the main event, top 10 light heavyweights, Aleksander Rakic and Anthony Smith will look to earn a statement victory. With no champion at the helm at 205-pounds, the race to a title shot is seemingly more open right now.

Austin Springer and Hannah Cifers lose a portion of their purse after missing weight

Late replacement Austin Springer couldn’t make the weight cut in the short time that he had. A late replacement for Kevin Croom, Springer weighed in at 151 pounds for the featherweight contest. He has been fined 30 percent of his purse.

Springer has fought on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018, grabbing a win over current UFC featherweight Giga Chikadze. However, the win didn’t bring with itself a UFC contract. Even though he has missed weight, Springer still has an opportunity to grab everyone’s attention with his performance.

The other fighter to miss weight for her fight was UFC strawweight Hannah Cifers. The scale read 117 pounds when Cifers stepped on it for her scheduled fight with Mallory Martin. Consequently, she will be forfeiting twenty percent of her purse. Cifers has had a busy year so far. However, her activity hasn’t translated to triumph inside the Octagon.

She has dropped three consecutive fights against Angela Hill, Mackenzie Dern, and Mariya Agapova. However, she is the experienced fighter heading into the fight against Martin. Her opponent is yet another fighter from Dana White’s Contender Series, Mallory Martin lost her UFC debut last year after riding a five-fight win streak.
