Kei Nishikori still COVID-19 positive, casting more doubts on US Open 2020 return

Japanese Tennis icon Kei Nishikori released an update on his COVID-19 situation on Friday. Nishikori was supposed to take part in the Western and Southern Open before the US Open. However, testing positive for COVID-19 he pulled out of the tournament. He confined himself into complete isolation after the test results. As the protocol goes, he had to undergo another test on Friday. Fans across the world looked forward for some ray of hope. However, disappointing everyone, Nishikori broke the news that he is still positive.

“Hi everyone, I have some unfortunate news today. This morning while still in Florida, I got tested for COVID-19 and tested positive I will have to pull out of the Cincinnati Tournament at this time”- he said in the news through his app.

Friday marked the date his fans were looking forward to for some good news. However pouring rain over their parade he let out the news everyone anticipated.

“Just a little update, I took another Covid test and am still positive. ”

Nishikori shared his condition with everyone stating he’ll be in complete isolation. Promising to reach out with more news Nishikori sent his heartfelt gratitude to everyone.

“Next test will be early next week at which time we will update you with more information. Thanks for all the messages and have a good weekend”

The US Open finalist in 2014, Kei Nishikori is the highest rated player from Japan. In 2015 he reached career high rank 4. The 30 year old professional declared his news through his mobile app while he was in Florida. Pulling out of the Western and Southern Open, Nishikori remains hopeful regarding the US Open. Even though the second test result fetching positive puts the Grand Slam idea into jeopardy. however, Nishikori did not let out any verdict as of now regarding his future.

With almost 10 days left for the US Open to commence time is running out for Nishikori. We are hopeful of some good news in the coming week. Even if he is not able to participate in the Grand Slam, everyone will be hoping for his speedy recovery.
