Dr Disrespect is back with his fiery opinions. This time around, his statement is somewhat controversial. A few months ago, Twitch banned Dr Disrespect from the platform. Since his return to streaming on YouTube, Doc has somehow always found his way back into the limelight. This time, it is one of his tweets.
You’re not an esport gamer.
You’re a Professional Video Game player.
I’ll always be right about this. The word ‘esport’ is a nerdy, lazy approach that can always be reverted at anytime if we choose to do so.

Dr Disrespect not happy with ‘esports’
Doc is drawing a line in the esports community. A figure as popular as he exerts a lot of influence on people. The terminology for professional gaming has not been standardized to date. Yet, players have always referred to themselves as esports professionals.
Doc, however, seems to have a problem with that. According to him, ‘professional video game player’ is the appropriate term.
He obviously has a right to his opinion, and it will probably strike up a debate. However, it is difficult to understand why he has an issue with the term ‘esports.’ Perhaps because traditionally, sports have always been connected to athleticism.
As you’d expect, a lot of people agree with Doc on this one.
I agree with this, Professional Video Game Players on top.

Ferg is a former Cloud9 pro who used to play Battle Royale games professionally. Additionally, Twitch streamer and TSM member Viss firmly agreed with Doc’s opinion.
“Agreed Esports gamer, doesn’t have the best ring to it. Esports player sounds a little better. Professional video game player sounds the best to me.”
The absence of athletic prowess in gaming will always conflict with it being called a sport. Yet the esports scene has been huge for some time now. Also, an enterprise, when it grows, influences mainstream media and the audience. The case is similar here as well. With the growth of the esports franchises, the tag ‘esports’ has stuck with the mainstream audience. Therefore, its usage is so popular.
Many will acknowledge the fact that terminology needs to evolve with time. We need to wait and watch how this will pan out.
