Benoit Paire Accuses US Open 2020 Says It’s a ‘Fake Bubble’

French tennis player Benoit Paire flew to New York with an aspiration to participate in the second Grand Slam of the year, US Open 2020. However, as misfortunes bounced upon, he was tested positive for coronavirus inside the secured bubble of the US Open, and consequently, on Sunday he had to withdraw from the tournament.

After withdrawing from the event, Paire criticized the US Open bubble. Fortunately, health-wise he doing well and has no symptoms, but he says the isolated bubble created by the USTA officials is ‘fake.’

“I’m fine for now I have no symptoms .. I hesitate to tell what is really going on in this Fake Bubble,” Benoit Paire posted on his Instagram. (Translated quotes)

World Number 22 Benoit Paire was the first tennis player to test positive for COVID-19 inside the bubble. A few days ago, he was playing at the Cincinnati Open but retired from his first-round match due to sickness while trailing 6-0, 1-0  against Borna Coric.

At US Open, he was seeded 17th in the men’s draw and had chances to make a deep run in the tournament, but after he got infected with the virus, Paire was forced to isolate himself.

He was replaced by 34-year-old Spaniard ranked No. 134 Marcel Granollers. He will be playing Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in the first round of the US Open on Tuesday.

Paire’s compatriot Kristina Mladenovic came in contact with him, and due to which her movements have been restricted. She was practicing with Paire and also spent time playing cards with him.

“I am basically in a new ‘bubble in the bubble,’ so there’s not very much I’m allowed to do, which makes it tough for me to compete and mentally be kind of fresh and ready,” she said after defeating American Hailey Baptiste 7-5, 6-2 in the first round.

Also, Kiki is one of the six players who potentially got infected with the virus due to Paire’s vicinity and they are being tested every day instead of once in four days.
