Amid Poor Ferrari Form, Sebastian Vettel Breaks His Own F1 Record at the Belgian Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel struggled to keep up with the pace in the recently concluded Belgium Grand Prix. However, his 13th place finish handed him a personal record. Continuing his poor form along with Ferrari, Vettel had the slightest idea he broke his personal record. Pulling out a flop race, Vettel marched onto score 7 consecutive races outside the top 5.

His previous streak of 6 races outside the top 5 dates back to 2007. His streak was broken after a 4th position finish in China. However, the new record is something Vettel won’t be proud of.

Sebastian Vettel finished outside of the Top 5 for the 7th straight race for the first time in his 247 race career in the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix; his original longest streak outside the Top 5 was his first 6 Grand Prix, before finishing 4th in China in 2007. from formula1

The last time Vettel finished a race in the top 5 was way back in 2019 in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Vettel never reached the top 5 spots this season. In seven races in 2020, a P6 in Hungary remains his highest-ranked race. His poor form would be a matter of concern for him as he is yet to sign a deal for the upcoming Formula 1 session.

Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari having a tough time in the track

Ferrari had pretty tough luck this weekend. Coming into the race with an issue with the power unit, they were struggling in the practice sessions. Relieving all speculations, Mattia Binotto mentioned the issue was with the tire segments. Ferrari had to settle for two mid-table finishes with Vettel 13th and Charles Leclerc 14th.

Humiliation knew no bound as Alfa Romeo, being Ferrari’s customer for their engines surpassed them with ease. Though Mattia blamed the track for the cause of defeat, it was a mere excuse from the Italian chief.

Up next Formula 1 moves to Italy where teams would be fighting for the Monza Grand Prix. The real test is for Ferrari as they would look forward to putting up a decent performance in their backyard. However, it would be highly dramatic to see arch-rivals Mercedes lifting the Championship Cup right under the nose of the Italian side.
