Lahore: Pakistan-born South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir has expressed his disappointment over not being able to represent Pakistan in international cricket.
The 41-year-old Imran Tahir lived in Lahore till 2005 and represented Pakistan U-19 and A teams but didn’t get a chance to play for the senior team. He later moved to South Africa and ended up playing for its national team.
“I used to play cricket in Lahore and it played a major role in where I am. I played most of my cricket in Pakistan but did not get a chance here, for which I am disappointed,” Tahir told a local news channel.
He gave credit to his wife for moving to South Africa. Tahir made his debut in the 2011 Cricket World Cup and ended up being the second-highest wicket-taker for the proteas.
“It was hard leaving Pakistan but God blessed me and most of the credit for playing for South Africa goes to my wife,” he added.
It must be noted that Tahir so far represented South Africa in all three formats. In 165 games, has taken 293 wickets. He retired from ODI cricket after the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
