World Golf Hall of Famer Vijay Singh has pulled out of the Korn Ferry Tour event at TPC Sawgrass after being labelled a "piece of trash" and a "complete turd" by his fellow professional golfers.
The former Masters champion and three-time major winner faced backlash after entering the second-string tournament that is traditionally reserved for up-and-coming golfers trying to qualify for the PGA Tour.
Singh, who has already earned his PGA Tour card for life with a required 20 PGA Tour wins, was eager to get some rounds in after being unable to enter into the limited field Charles Schwab Challenge on the pro circuit scheduled for the same week.
But his decision to instead play the Korn Ferry Tour was met with harsh criticism from one pro in particular, Brady Schnell, who blasted the golfing veteran, who has pocketed AUD $109 million over the course of a decorated career, over Twitter.
"Hey @VijaySinghGolf you are a true piece of trash if you accept money playing in a Korn Ferry Tour event and I'll say it right to your face," Schnell wrote.
"Do you know how much those points and money could do for a young kid?
"He's a complete turd for playing. He's got his money and he's got his career. Just wait another month and roll with your senior friends."
Schnell, 35, has missed five of six cuts on the Korn Ferry Tour this season.
Schnell has since deleted his tweets and apologised for blasting Singh who was backed in his original decision to play by golfing legend Phil Mickelson. Mickelson and Singh have for years had a frosty relationship.
"Yesterday I said some disrespectful things towards @VijaySinghGolf and for that I am truly sorry!" Schell tweeted.
"A different approach should have been taken in order to get my point across. I will learn from this and be better! I'm looking forward to getting back to work and playing some golf."

"It's no secret VJ and I aren't close, but I'd like to say on his behalf that in addition to being a member of the Hall of Fame, he's a big part of the PGA Tour's success which financially subsidises, and always has, the KFT," Mickelson tweeted.
"He has earned the right to play when and where he wants."
Singh held the world number one ranking for 32 weeks in 2004 and 2005.
The Fijian legend sits fourth on the all-time prize money winnings list.
