Dragons fans have taken another body blow with confirmation that Tyson Frizell is off to Newcastle in 2021 - but the club itself is far less concerned.
Frizell is the Dragons' best and most destructive forward - but Wide World of Sports has learned that club officials believe his body is wracked with problems and that he does not play well with injury.
That is the reason the Dragons did not fight tooth and nail to keep the State of Origin forward - even though it has been known for months he has wanted to go to Newcastle.
The Knights were unable to register Frizell's deal while the game was in limbo - but the Dragons did little to entice the big forward to stay.
"There is a feeling in the camp that his body has taken a lot of punishment and that he struggles to play well when carrying injuries," a Dragons insider told Wide World of Sports.
"He is a great player but that is the thoughts of those that matter in the place.
"They will deny it because he is popular and a good bloke but they will use his money to try buying someone younger and just as strong."
Frizell, who turns 29 later this year and has nearly 200 games to his name, plays the game at a furious pace and has taken plenty of punishment down the years since debuting for Cronulla in 2011.
But the early-season stats indicate Frizell is still doing more than his bit for the Red V cause.
He has played every minute of the Dragons' three games and is averaging 132 metres in attack - the most of any forward at the club.
