Collingwood president Eddie McGuire believes the Geelong Cats should open up and reveal the details behind Jack Steven's stabbing last weekend.
Steven was discharged from hospital on Tuesday, having been admitted with a stab wound on Saturday night.
The AFL will conduct an investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the incident while Geelong coach Chris Scott claimed on Thursday Steven has "no case to answer".
"I get the feeling that some people want to roll some of the previous problems that Jack has had into this current situation and I would caution against that," Scott said.
"I think it's wrong that some people have jumped the gun and said that this is an AFL integrity matter and somehow Jack has a case to answer before he is allowed to play footy again. I just think that is assuming the worst in people."
Responding to Scott's comments, McGuire urged the Cats to reveal what happened so fans and media can avoid asking questions and move on from the situation.
"Well there's an easy solution, Scotty: Tell us what the hell happened and then we won't have to jump the gun and try and out the line between the two points and all the rest of it," McGuire told Triple M's Hot Breakfast.
"That's the easy way, just tell us what happened, and everyone will be able to move on."
Co-host and former AFL star Luke Darcy stood up for the Cats coach due to the "family sensitivities" surrounding the situation.
Darcy told McGuire that although the details will come out eventually, he hopes they're not rushed.
In response, McGuire declared there was no reason for yesterday's press conference if no details would be revealed.
"I know, but my point is don't have a press conference if you're not going to say anything. So wait until you can and then do it.
"It's a massive story so people are going to report on it."
Darcy then added: "I think he said enough there … 'don't jump to the conclusion that he's previous battles are connected to this, I think you would be assuming the worst in someone' – so I think he gave a fair bit there, Chris Scott, in understanding a bit more about what Jack Steven's been through.
"It's an incredible situation. You've got a player that's been stabbed, so it's a pretty big story and you've got do a lot to deal with on the person who's actually been stabbed that you'd be putting all of your care around at the same time."
