Leaked memo reveals AFL's extreme isolation measures

AFL players have been told they must stay at home unless absolutely necessary in a leaked memo that outlines exactly how the 2020 season will go ahead.

According to Seven News, the briefing document runs to more than 40 pages, with players to be given a detailed tutorial when they return to training today.

Players will be required to provide a daily report to the AFL confirming they've complied with the regulations.

Legitimate reasons for leaving home include buying food, picking up kids, visiting a partner, and essential exercise.

All players will be tested twice a week for COVID-19, including 24 hours before a match. Players not taking part in a match will be banned from attending the ground, while clubs will be restricted to 26 staff, with a maximum of six in the coaches box.

Quarter time breaks have been extended by two minutes, and will now run for eight minutes, while the post-goal break has been extended from 45 seconds to a minute, to ensure better hygiene as players take a drink.

All non-essential contact will be banned, meaning players on the bench must sit 1.5 metres apart, and there will be no high-fives or post-game handshakes.

Players will also be required to maintain social distancing for the post-match team song.

The AFL season will restart on June 11. Clubs will resume full contact training next week.
