The Adelaide Thunderbirds have been fined $100,000 for breaching the Total Player Payments cap during the 2019 season.
Adelaide was fined after club CEO Bronwyn Klei self-reported to the League Compliance Manager back in November 2019 due to concerns with regards to contracts signed prior to her tenure in the role.
The Thunderbirds will be required to pay $10,000 of the fine up front immediately, with the remaining $90,000 suspended for the next three years.
According to a statement from Netball Australia, the Thunderbirds had breached the salary cap by $22,698 during the 2019 season.
Following Klei's self-reporting, the potential breach was investigated as a part of the league's annual KPMG Compliance Review, which revealed that payments and vehicles were provided above approved contracts.
In the statement, Suncorp Super Netball CEO Chris Symington said that the Thunderbirds would be subjected to further fines if similar issues were to occur down the line.
"The rules that govern our game are the backbone of a fair and equitable competition. The Adelaide Thunderbirds have rightfully been fined in this instance and they also have been put on notice that further fines will apply if any issues relating to Total Player Payments arise in the future" Symington said.
"I would like to acknowledge Thunderbirds management for coming forward when they realised there was an issue, and their cooperation throughout our investigation."
