More than a day ago, UFC 248 concluded with Israel Adesanya emerging victorious over Yoel Romero. Although the fight had two of the biggest names in the middleweight division, it left a sour taste in many fans’ mouth, including UFC President Dana White.
Many fans and pundits refer to Adesanya vs Romero as a chess match. Throughout the fight, two lethal strikers were waiting for their opponent to make a mistake. In the process, the fight lacked so much action that the referee had to advise both men to engage.

Both men talked a big game before the fight but the actual fight did not live up to the hype. Instead of being mad at themselves, both fighters were disappointed with their opponent.
Dana White regrets making Adesanya vs Romero
The lacklustre performance disappointed Dana White as he expressed his displeasure in the post-fight press conference.
“Hindsight is 20/20 – probably shouldn’t have done that fight and should’ve waited for Costa.”

White said, “The matchmakers didn’t love that fight and didn’t want to make that fight. They did not want to make Adesanya vs Romero.”
Before fighting Adesanya, Romero was on a 2 fight losing streak. Also, he had fought for the title twice against Robert Whittaker. He lost both fights against Whittaker.
“The goofy fan in me said, are you sh**ting me? This is a fun fight to do. And the fact that he wants to fight a guy that nobody wants to fight, now hindsight is 20/20 – probably shouldn’t have done that fight and should’ve waited for Costa”
Originally, Paulo Costa was supposed to fight Adesanya. Costa defeated Romero last August to become the #1 contender. An injury forced Costa to delay his title shot.
Dana White also revealed that Adesanya vs Romero did not make sense to the matchmakers.
“Can’t tell the matchmakers anything that does not make sense. Everything has to make sense to those two.” Dana White told the media.
White’s frustration with the main event can be understood. However, there was a lot of planning behind each move. A mistake by either man could’ve been fatal for either man. Besides that, the co-main event between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang could have overshadowed the main event.
