Shahid Afridi reveals interesting fact about his iconic wicket celebration

Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has revealed the match when he started doing his iconic celebration after taking a wicket.

Boom Boom Afridi, whose celebration is often highlighted as one of the best and is vastly popular among children

“We were playing against England at Lord’s in 2006 where I and Shoaib Malik tried to catch but luckily I caught it, so the celebration started from there,” he said in a video released by the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“I started doing it often, people started liking but it became more popular especially among children. My own daughters liked it so I continued doing it,” The 40-year-old added.

Pakistan-born South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir revealed that he started celebrating when he played at the U19 level in Pakistan.

“It’s my way of expressing my feelings. My colleagues know who has played with me in the start and even now that it’s not planned and it happens unintentionally,” he said.

“Early in my career I used to kick after taking a wicket but one of my seniors said that it doesn’t look good so I decided to change it. I call my celebration ‘Bump’ but my fans call it ‘Generator’,” young star bowler Hasan Ali said.

It must be noted that all the above-mentioned star players are in action in the PSL season five.
