It has been almost two weeks since the National Basketball Association (NBA) suspended its league. The announcement came along with the revelation of the first positive case of coronavirus in the NBA- Rudy Gobert.
Over the next few days, the number of cases in the NBA and all over the world rose. This put the resumption of the season in jeopardy. However, the word around the NBA seems that everyone wants to salvage something out of the season- no matter how late it into the summer it might go.
NBA analysts say the league is trying to salvage the season at all costs
Many analysts and reporters believe that the NBA will resume, even if it has to go till September.
Appearing on Outside the Lines, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN said that the league will do all it can to see the season end well.
“This is a general sense among owners and players that no matter what they want to salvage the season, if that’s in July, if that’s in August, if that’s in September, so be it,” she said. “I don’t think anyone wants to start a new season without crowning a champion from this season.”

Former NBA player Jalen Rose said players could get ready physically to resume the season quickly, and doesn’t see a competition with other sports as an issue. “The NBA could start in mid-June, mid-July, the NBA could start in August,” he said on ESPN’s morning show Get Up. “This idea that you can’t play basketball in September because you don’t want to compete with the NFL is absurd.”
Brian Windhorst later reiterated Rose’s comments on the same program.
“I think they’ll do whatever it takes, whatever it is on the calendar,” he said. “I don’t think I would rule out September basketball at all.”
Adrian Wojnarowski also reflected similar thoughts in his article on ESPN. Wojnarowski brought out a new idea that sees the rest of the league being shifted to summer and fall.
