Prince Harry reacts to Invictus Games virus fears

Prince Harry's Invictus Games are reportedly under threat from the coronavirus outbreak, with fears growing that the event may be cancelled.

The risk of the coronavirus in the European Union has been upgraded from moderate to high and a report in The Sun said plans for the Invictus Games, a sporting event for wounded service personnel, had been thrown into "chaos".

This year's event is set to be held in Holland in May but there are concerns the country could follow the lead of neighbours France, which has banned events with more than 5,000 people.

According to The Sun, Prince Harry has demanded the safety and welfare of the athletes "comes before anything else" and is receiving daily updates on the spread of the virus.

A source told the British newspaper that "Harry takes the Games incredibly seriously and will be desperate to make sure they are a big success," with wife Meghan expected to attend.

The Duke of Sussex, who previously served in the military, co-created the Invictus Games, which sees wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel compete in nine different sports, such as wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and indoor rowing.

The event was first held in 2014 and draws competitors from 20 different countries.

While Prince Harry and Meghan are stepping back from senior royal duties, they plan to continue their involvement with the Invictus Games and other charities.
