UFC President Dana White is doing everything he can to ensure that nothing stops Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson from locking horns on 18 April.
The two will headline UFC 249. While Dana did cancel three events prior to UFC 249, he is ensuring that there is absolutely no hurdle for its smooth conductance.
But, with sports leagues across the globe shitting operations, owing to the pandemic, Dana is constantly facing a barrel of questions regarding his motive behind denying postponing the event.
To answer all such questions, Dana White said in an interview with ‘Yahoo! Sports’,
“We need somebody to be the first guy to step forward and say, ‘come on guys, let’s snap back and get going.’”
Dana White believes that we need a pioneer to return to normalcy. Thus, while the world looks for more and more safety measures, he wants to start helping life return to normal.
Of course, that is not the only reason that he wants to go ahead on 18 April, come what may. The clash between Tony and Khabib will be the biggest fight that the UFC universe will ever witness. But while people may think that Dana is being greedy, the reality is completely opposite.
The event will not have a live audience, which instantly negates the possibility of earning millions of dollars. Moreover, with the situation being as critical as it is, Dana is also not pushing PPV.

Carrying on with the interview, Dana reiterated his argument. He said, “How long are we going to hide? Are we going to hide for months? Are we going to shut down the whole world for months? It’s crazy!”
And what better way to invite fans for the first real sports event ever since the worldwide lockdown than Khabib vs. Tony?
Yet, the boss has another trick up his sleeve. Reportedly, he is making the card “the baddest card ever”. He has also invited Francis Ngannou to be a part of this.
Commenting on all he is doing and the possible outcome of his actions, he said, “One thing I do know is I’m not wrong. I know I’m right. I know it’s the right thing to do.”
Well, for his own sake and the sake of the world, we sure hope Dana is right.
