World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas and his younger brother Petros Tsitsipas shine as Greece went off to a 2-0 lead over the Philippines at the Davis Cup World Group II playoffs on Friday. However, how did the two brothers help each other on the Tour? Stefanos reveals.
The 21-year-old led Greece to its first win after an overpowering 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Philippines’ Alberto Lim Jr. on Friday. Tsitsipas’ younger brother Petros was equally impressive as he earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Philippines No.1 Jeson Patrombon. With their victories, the Greek brothers pushed their team on the verge of sealing the victory.
“We go through phases and moments on the court together”: Stefanos Tsitsipas
The reigning ATP finals champion was happy to get through his junior rival despite struggling to adjust on the surface. However, he was even more proud of his younger brother, who ripped past the host country’s No.1.
“We move together,” Stefanos Tsitsipas said in the post-match press conference. “And we go through phases and moments on the court together which are really wonderful to see.”
“I think throughout the process we grow as individuals by playing tennis, by trying to find solutions. It’s just wonderful to have a brother with whom you can share the moment with,” he further added.

The Tsitsipas brothers helped Greece to gain an early advantage. Subsequently, Petros Tsitsipas will team up with Markos Kalovelonis to play doubles against Ruben Gonzales and Francis Casey Alcantarain the third rubber to seal the tie.
On the other hand, Stefanos will play the reverse singles tie if Greece loses the third rubber at the Philippine Columbian Association’s Plaza Dilao courts in Paco, Manila on March 7.
The Group II winners will then compete in the World Group II ties in September along with the losing nations from World Group I. It will be interesting to watch the two brothers team up for their country at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020.
