“Everything Is Mental”- Khabib Nurmagomedov Opens Up On Retirement Question

The undefeated UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the biggest names in combat sports. The Dagestani fighter boasts of a record of 28-0. This mint-mark makes Khabib the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

At the age of 31, the question that arises very often is, when the champion will retire. Khabib claims he is always learning. Each and every fight is an opportunity for him to improve something in himself.

“I still learning. I have more and more power, I feel like hungry. But about how much longer I am going to be in this game? I don’t know. Because Everything is about mental. If you tired you have to stop. If I understand my time, I have to stop, I’m gonna stop.”- Khabib Nurmagomedov on retirement

Khabib claims that his entire team plays a huge role in motivating him to strive for more. Everyone including his sparring partners, coach, father, manager(Ali Abdelaziz) push him to be better. Their honesty is what keeps him going, says Khabib.

Khabib Nurmagomedov On His Fight With Tony Ferguson

As of now, Khabib feels he is at the top of his game. This is the perfect time for the lightweight division, adds The Eagle. Khabib feels he needs to cross Tony Ferguson’s name off his list for the sake of his legacy.

This is not the first time the two have been scheduled to take on each other. For years, injuries on both sides have kept this bout from taking place. Khabib feels he needs to take on El Cucuy as soon as possible because of the American’s advancing age.

Khabib v Ferguson

Ferguson is currently 36 years old and Khabib feels that his age could become an excuse that people can use to justify his defeat. He is afraid people would feel that he should have taken on Ferguson when the latter was younger.

“Oh if they fight before, like 4-5 years ago, it was interesting. But right now, okay Khabib beat him but he is like 37 years old. This is very big excuse for haters, for his friends, for him.”- Khabib Nurmagomedov

To Khabib this fight is not about the belt, the money or the pay per view. It is about establishing who is the best fighter in the UFC lightweight division once and for all. This is about history.
