The WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and his family and his family recently quarantined themselves. However, a test confirms that the fighter, who is also a Philippine senator is safe from Coronavirus.
Both Pacquiao and his family put themselves in quarantine because the former has been in contact with a senator who tested positive for COVID-19. Reportedly the two came in contact in a special senate session that took place on 23rd March.
The Dasmariñas Village barangay chairman Rossanna Hwang, in a letter to Pacquiao, calls the Senator a “person under monitoring”. In addition to urging the eight-division boxing champion to stay home.
“My countrymen, I would like to make it clear that even before I received the letter from [Dasmariñas Village, Makati] Barangay Captain Rossana Hwang, I already started home quarantine,”- Manny Pacquiao
According to a statement made by Pacquiao, he used a rapid testing kit from South Korea. The results of which have come negative.
“Please don’t worry. I received rapid testing kits from my friends from South Korea. Using these kits approved in Korea, I tested negative. The FDA [Food and Drug Administration] hasn’t approved them yet but these are what’s used in Korea.”- Manny Pacquiao
Manny Pacquiao is Willing to Take Further Tests
Pacquiao adds that he has not been feeling any symptoms. However, several people have been encouraging him to get a test at RITM [Research Institute for Tropical Medicine].
Even though the result of the test came out as negative, Pacquiao is more than willing to get further tests.
“It’s an entirely different conversation when I’m feeling something strange in my body. I am willing to undergo swab testing for the sake of my family and my country, but I will go through the regular procedure.”- Manny Pacquiao
Pacquiao urges the people of his country to cooperate with the government during this tough time. Pacquiao, supposed to turn over around 57,600 test kits from Jack Ma claims that more kits are on their way.
“We’ll get past his challenge, my fellow men. Let’s believe.”- Manny Pacquiao
Pacquiao sent a message of hope out to his people. The Philippines reports a total number of 1,418 cases. Out of which 71 people have already passed away and 42 have recovered.
